Well, that's the Hidden Elites for you. There's a reason nobody likes us very much. Lots of reasons, actually. Trying to rape women is just one of them.

[He stares for a second or two, before grinning and shrugging.]

[He doesn't seem too bothered by the thought at all, though.]

[And at his grin, her expression softens too, until she's smiling back at him.]

Well...nobody's going to be killing you, since you're pretty strong as it is, but I'll watch your back too, for what it's worth.

Nobody's allowed to kill you when I owe you so much!

You don't owe me anything, geez! But I guess it won't hurt to have someone there for me.

... As long as you don't wander around too much when I'm on business. And I can't really take you with me when I'm dealing with the nobles, so you'll have to find a way to entertain yourself while I'm not around.

[She'll be there for you, no matter what comes their way--that's just a silent promise she makes herself though. She can never think of a good way to repay him for everything he's done for her--the magic, the number of times he has saved her life...--and so this works perfectly.

She'll just be there for him, come rain or shine, and that will have to be enough.]

[He gestures to her clothing and then to his uniform.]

And you definitely don't look like a servant either. I guess you could say that you're there to challenge one of them, but you talking with one of them is...

[He points his index fingers at each other, his fingertips making contact before he spreads his hands apart.]

She's clearly thinking this over, and not liking the conclusions she's drawing. At all.]

Well, they don't trust sending me out of the country anymore, so I don't get a whole lot of missions that would take days to complete, and while I've gotta keep up good relations, the nobles can't really be seen fraternizing with an assassin like me, so meeting with them doesn't take too long...

[He smiles.]

[She pauses and huffs and--]

I already told you that I'm not gonna just ditch you. It's not like I'm used to entertaining guests, though.

You don't have to entertain me. Just having you around is enough. It's waaay more interesting than nobody being around.

Well, as godly as I know my presence is, you're just gonna have to get used to having nobody around. Unless you reaaaaally feel like getting to know the other Hidden Elites...

But if I can't leave, I can't make new friends either. So I'll just be all alone.

[There's a pause while he walks, before he sighs.]

How about this: when I leave for a mission or whatever, I'll take you with me and drop you off outside the area? The Hidden Elites wouldn't bother you if you're with me when we leave the house, and while I dunno how fun wandering around town is, it's probably better than being cooped up inside all day and you can at least talk with people.

Just don't accidentally trespass onto a noble's territory and watch out for carriages that look like they belong to someone important. The streets' atmospheres are pretty easy to read, though—if everyone suddenly becomes tense, that means you should be too.

[She brightens instantly, grinning.]

That would be great! I'll be careful and stay out of trouble. But at least I can look around then and talk to people.

[You'd think it was Christmas, really, with how pleased she is.]

All right, then that's settled! I'll even give you some money, if you want. Just don't spend it recklessly.

[He looks up, thinking.]

Ah, actually, you can buy groceries too, then. I don't really have much time for that thanks to my work, so this makes things convenient.

[Because Roland dismissed his servants years ago and while that's not too much of a loss, it means that he hasn't been eating entirely properly—]

[Morgan just grins and nods at that, holding her tome to her chest easily as she grins.]

I can do that! Shopping for food can be lots of fun, and shopping for food in another world entirely...

[She taps a finger to her lips thoughtfully.]

[He tilts his head.]
