[Character name] Kaoru
[Age] 14-ish?
[Canon] Towa no Quon
[Point in time taken from canon] Just before leaving the flower at Fantasium Garden.

[Background]

Kaoru appears to be relatively wealthy, living in a manor alone with his mother, who seems to largely ignore his existence. Not much is known about his past, other than that he was horribly bullied and ostracized while growing up, due to being able to hear the voices of flowers. Along with the hearing the pain of flowers, who are generally grown only to look pretty and are unloved, this conditioned Kaoru to become very bitter towards other people, isolating himself further.

To free the flowers from their pain, Kaoru goes around killing them in the present, as per their pleas. It's during one of these rages that he meets a girl named Kiri, who also happens to possess strange abilities. After a few encounters, she takes him to a place called Fantasium Garden, where Kaoru is amazed to find a garden filled with compassion—a garden where the flowers weren't merely grown to bloom quickly.

Furthermore, it turns out that Fantasium Garden is a haven for people with mysterious powers, such as him. It would seem that everything is finally going well for him—only for a few of the children to call him strange for his abilities, because clearly, even by their standards, talking to flowers is just weird.

For Kaoru, this is the final slap to the face, as he runs off. Unfortunately for the people in Fantasium Garden, what they didn't know about Kaoru is that he's also the serial killer that they've been trying to track down recently. His communication with flowers goes both ways—they speak to him, and in return he can make them release a dangerous scent that drives people to insanity.

And his next target? The people of Fantasium Garden.

[Personality]

Kaoru is not a nice person. Not to humans, at least.

It's easy to tell from the start that he's, well, a grumpy kid. He almost always has a frown on his face, ready to snap at anyone at any time. It's less so that he's purposely mean (on a normal basis) as it is that he didn't exactly grow up with proper social skills or a love of people, so he makes no effort to be kind or polite. In that sense, he's rather socially awkward, since he doesn't seem to be very apt in dealing with other people—not only is he something of a shut-in, his reaction to quite a few things is to simply run away from the scene. He's not even comfortable with his mother, as he's clearly seen to be tense when she enters the house, only relaxing once it's made obvious that she won't bother him.

This, of course, stems from the bullying and isolation. He grew up being told that he was strange—a freak, because who talks to flowers? And now, in the present, he continues to seem weird because he goes around killing them. In return, though, Kaoru believes that everyone else is the weird one for not being able to hear them. Although he may not like other humans at all, Kaoru has a deep love for flowers, the one living thing he is able to empathize with. He shares their pain, having been raised hearing and being tormented by it. In Kaoru's eyes, humans are cruel for hurting them the way they do and not even realizing it. Overall, as another character puts it, he can hear the voices of flowers, but not those of other people. He's already closed himself off from others.

Altogether, Kaoru has developed a vengeance sort of mindset. In his own words, "People who laugh at me might as well die". He doesn't see it as anything wrong on his part; as far as he's concerned, he's just fighting back, as they were the ones who hurt him first. And as he applies this mindset to everyone in the world, it means that he has no qualms about killing anyone. In his opinion, it would be better if the world was filled with only flowers, rather than people. If pushed far enough, he can start acting a bit like an smug, arrogant psychopath, smirking and taunting his opponents. It's in this case that he can be outright malicious, as he purposely insults and provokes his enemies.

At the end of the day, though, Kaoru is just a deeply hurt and unstable child. Even a bit of kindness isn't enough to save him, as by this point he's become far more attuned to the cruelty than anything else. He's always one step away from breaking, if he's isn't already broken, as he doesn't feel like there's any hope left. He essentially feels like he's been muted all his life, as no one will listen to him, a "weirdo". He's mocked and looked down on for being himself. To him, it's obvious that he has no place in the world. It's because of this that, ultimately, Kaoru is rather resigned and holds onto little, as he acknowledges that he has next to nothing to begin with. Consequently, he's fairly peaceful when he's about to die, even smiling sadly and stating—

"I'm fine. There's no one who would grieve for me."

[Abilities]

◦ He hears the voices of flowers. Hence why he hates you all.

◦ He can control their scents. Sedirea japonicas in particular are what he uses to kill people, as he can make them release a fragrance that messes with the brain. Specifically, it seems to invoke fear in them to the point of paralyzation, delirium, insanity, etc.

◦ If pressed far enough, he can transform into a large flower being (with various stages). In this new body, he has vines that he can control, parts that can swallow up other people, etc., and a fair amount of endurance. This form(s) seems to be triggered more by his emotions, however, than through conscious will.

[Other important stuff]

Screw balloons.

[Sample post]
[First Person]

- What do you think of your home world?

It's disgusting. Everyone can go die.

- What were you doing before now?

What does it matter to you?

- If you were to describe yourself in one sentence, what would that be?

That's none of your business. You just think I'm a freak anyway, don't you? You all do! So just shut up already—!

- Someone comes to you to ask for the time. How would you respond?

They can ask someone else.

[Aka screw them.]

- If I offered to save your soul for a price, would you go with it and why?

Save my soul? And why would I need that? Don't look down on me.

- Murder. What is your opinion?

You don't even really care about my opinion, so why are you asking?

[Totally okay if he's doing it—]

- You discover someone stalking you. Do you call the police or deal with it yourself?

I can handle it myself. I don't need help from other people!

- What is more important to you: having friends or living on your own? Why?

... I'd rather live on my own. Things would be a lot better that way.

- You see a bloody knife on the floor. What do you do or think?

It's not my problem.

- Am I asking too many personal or strange questions?

Yes. Leave me alone already.

- Oh look, there's a double rainbow!

...

[No. Comment.]

- Hey, did you hear about that giant sale going on? Interested? What would you want to get?

I don't care.

- Do you believe in the magic of friendship?

With those people? Who just mock me even though they're the weird ones? Why would I want to be friends with them?

[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] We'd just like to get an idea of why you wish to play this particular character. No need for anything lengthy, just a sentence or two will work (but giving us more than that is perfectly A-OK!). We will NOT judge applicants by how they respond to this question.
