state of the rp: general

NOW IS NOT THE BEST TIME TO THINK ABOUT THIS because internet, but that aside, I'm still enjoying RP! c: My main problem right now is developing new muses, really, as I haven't had any "oh my god I want to play this character and actually can without huge difficulty" sort of muses in a long time, so if what I have eventually stops working, I don't really have any backup plans sob.

Holly Heights
state of the game

Hrrrm. Truth be told, HH is getting somewhat dry for me, in that I'm running out of things for Luke to do. The problem is that I don't really foresee any development for him, and I'm the sort of person who gets bored if development isn't happening, so hnnnngh. And Luke's personality in itself contributes to the problem, in that he ICly has difficulty forming anything more than shallow relationships (because welp emotional problems), so while I enjoy his CR, there is a sense of detachment in them.
character: Luke Stokkart [[personal profile] concealings]
age: 5
series: The Legend of the Legendary Heroes
time played: ~7 months

muse strength: ■ ■ ■ ■ □

Luke's voice is fairly easy, and it helps that I'm, well, the one who actually translated all of his scenes (as a child, that is) so I'm technically the one who even gets to decide what his voice is, ahaha. The problem more so stems from deciding how he would react in a certain situation—i.e. if he'd be as chill as ever or actually react in some way—though to an extent, you can never really say anything for certain, given that it's all a lie anyway, whoops. Luke is very whimsical as a child, which makes his way of speaking easy enough to pin down, but in terms of his attitude, the fact that his outward personality is a construct means that it's not just a matter of thinking how he thinks.

cast strength: □ □ □ □ □

AHAHAHA.

The woes of playing from a series that is not only obscure but still in the process of being translated. /buries face in hands

I do at least have bitty!Claugh and Luke's first meeting uploaded on B-T, though, which means that my chances of getting him as a castmate have increased to, like, a 0.0000000000000000001% chance.

(I'd kill for any castmate at all, really, but a 5-year-old Luke is hardly the most appealing offer.)

plotting capabilities: ■ ■ ■ □ □

Luke is nosy and curious enough to get into other people's business, but since Luke himself tends not to make a scene or do much to attract attention to himself, it's hard to really offer anything for plotting.

shipping potential: □ □ □ □ □

... He's five and permanently asexual, whether he likes it or not. This is the guy who still doesn't know if he's capable of basic affection twenty years later. ROMANCE IS NOT REALLY GOING TO BE A THING EVER.

likelihood of drop: ■ ■ ■ ■ □

I pretty much summed this up in the state of the game, so.

development/final thoughts:

Haven
state of the game

I'm enjoying Haven a lot! Third time's the charm. It offers a lot of potential for development, which is a good way of keeping me interested, and lots of people I know play there, so that's definitely a bonus uguu.

character: Zohra Rom [[personal profile] hammy]
age: 13
series: The Legend of the Legendary Heroes
time played: 5 months?? IDK I'M JUST LOOKING AT WHAT CAL PUT FOR MORGAN

muse strength: ■ ■ ■ ■ □

... THIS IS GOING TO GET TL;DR-Y I don't know why I like to analyze Zohra so much.

And here, opposite of what I said in Luke's, I think being a translator is actually kicking me here somewhat for Zohra. On one hand, having translated some of his scenes, I've had some extra focus on the way he talks and get to see how it was in Japanese. On the other hand, I feel like actually being a translator and looking at the raws has made me more aware that, again, a large part of it is up to the translator's quirks, whoops. And since Zohra has never appeared in an officially translated medium, fan translations—of three different translators, including myself, at that—are all I have to go off of.

Also, I feel like Zohra still has a distinct way of talking that's hard for me to pin down, though part of that might just be the difference in circumstances between canon and Haven—not to mention his various age in his scenes, as he goes from 10 to his debut to 13 in his next short story to the present (i.e. age 19) in his next short story and then it's the main series from there. And, well, Zohra obviously does grow up a bit, and you can see it in the way he acts and talks (he's not as... keet as a 19-year-old?), so I try not to base too much of his characterization off of anything past the first two short stories, but at the same time, it's tricky figuring out how much is development and how much is just him showing a side he hasn't shown before. Also, his manner of speaking stays relatively the same in the first two, but how he views the world is very different.

... ANYWAY ramblings aside, I'd like to think I at least have the general gist of his attitude down. And seriously, who is ever going to give me crit—

cast strength: □ □ □ □ □

/laughs again

Like Luke, even if we ignore canon obscurity and accessibility, Zohra is... not really the most appealing castmate unless we're talking about Pia or Peria, but hahahahahahaha who even plays them. I would absolutely love to have them, but yeaaaaaaaaah, it's never going to happen.

plotting capabilities: ■ ■ ■ ■ □

Zohra's... loud, to put it nicely, and eager enough to talk to anyone who'll listen that it's easy enough to throw at him people. He's really energetic and silly so I don't have to worry too much about him being quiet, at the same time that he's capable of his serious moments, so he's good for just about any situation, really.

The only problem is that sometimes he's a little too detached from everything, in that he can have a "it's not my problem" mindset to things, so he generally won't get too emotionally invested in something unless it actually affects him in some way.

shipping potential: ■ □ □ □ □

Sorry to everyone who ships him and Morgan but yeah, Zohra is highly unlikely to ever get into a serious ship because, well, Pia. It's pretty clear that he's utterly obsessed with her and as far as we know, Zohra isn't even necessarily straight, just Pia-sexual, given that he's canonly never been attracted to anyone in his life but her. The only reason it's not completely empty because we at least know that he's not asexual (anymore) thanks to Pia's existence. |D

likelihood of drop: □ □ □ □ □

I'M HAVING A LOT OF FUN WITH HIM and I think a loud character like him is what I need right now, so nope, not dropping anytime soon.

development/final thoughts:

I'm still really curious to see if he can actually be traumatized by anything, because again, he has such a detached attitude, which extends even to his own well-being. In a way, he's a very practical person because he knows that angsting accomplishes absolutely nothing and can very much act on that knowledge, so it's great for getting him to bounce back from things because... there isn't really anything to bounce back from to begin with.

He still has development in other ways, though, like seriously coming to see the Justice Cabal as friends and all that entails beyond "people who are occasionally fun to hang out with and whom I can trust with my back in a fight."
character: Sekreuz "Setz" Trenkel Navarus [[personal profile] defriends]
age: 16
series: Crepuscule
time played: ... A few weeks?

muse strength: ■ ■ ■ □ □

He's a new muse (or, well, his journal's been around for a while, but this is the first time he's been in a game, and the only thread I had before that was with a castmate), so I'm still trying to pin it down. While he does have a distinct-ish enough way of talking (and by that I mean I just insert a lot of ellipses and trail off and pause and whatnot), the tricky part is that Setz is actually... rather normal? In that he doesn't have a set way of reacting to everything and it varies on the situation. It's a bit hard to figure out when he'd be stoic or when he'd be awkward or when he'd be angry, etc.

Also, I'm still worried that he comes across as really boring sob.

cast strength: □ □ □ □ □

What... cast...

I feel like his chances of getting a castmate are slightly higher than Luke or Zohra's by virtue of Crepuscule being more accessible but considering that Luke and Zohra's chances are next to null, I don't think that says a lot—

Though hnnnnngh I really would love castmates and unlike Zohra, who can work as a lone canon warrior, I feel like Setz really would benefit from it. Well, not necessarily Setz himself, but playing Setz would.

plotting capabilities: ■ ■ ■ □ □

On the bright side, Setz does actually get involved with things, because he's really not the type to sit around and do nothing. COMPLEXES ABOUT BEING USEFUL YEAAAAAH.

On the downside, he's horribly anti-social and in a world where he doesn't have authority and therefore isn't expected to order people around or work with a specific group, he's really bad about outright approaching people. Plus, I feel kind of awkward approaching people for CR with him, because it's just. "I GIVE YOU A QUIET AND ANTI-SOCIAL PERSON WHERE YOUR CHARACTER WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO DO MOST OF THE TALKING..."

shipping potential: ■ □ □ □ □

Setz is... Setz. By which I mean that I could maybe see it happening one day in the far future if he becomes more well-adjusted and open but otherwise, Setz is, again, Setz. If Luke is bad at emotional attachments because he's physically messed up, then Setz is bad at emotional attachments because he's emotionally messed up. He's still struggling with friendship, let alone anything more, and it's safe to assume that his feelings towards Carne were platonic and not romantic, and if he didn't even fall in love with his fiancee of ten years who was just about the most important person in his life, then, well...

... Also, there's the whole mess with Carne and overall, it all adds up to romance probably not being a thing for Setz for a long, long time.

likelihood of drop: □ □ □ □ □

I just apped him, so not likely. I'm still testing the waters and seeing if he can stick, but I'm hoping that it will because I really do want to play him.

development/final thoughts:

I'm interested in seeing what Haven can to do Setz, because unlike Zohra, he actually angsts. If anything, Setz is pretty fragile, emotionally-speaking, and I can see him being pretty badly affected by some of the things here. On the other hand, Setz is repressed enough so that he wouldn't break right away—we see that his reaction to trauma now is to lock it away and bury himself in work and try and continue on with life like always, albeit in a somewhat self-abusive way.

That said, we've also seen him snap as a child, and I'm curious to see if he can be pushed that far again as a teenager. (':

Also, friendship. Setz badly needs to learn how to do it.
Homeless
state of the game

CHARACTERS I WANT TO PLAY IN A GAME but aren't for whatever reason.

character: Toale Nelphi [[personal profile] illegitimately]
age: 19
series: The Legend of the Legendary Heroes
time played: N/A

muse strength: ■ ■ ■ ■ □

Toale's outward behaviour is fairly simple, since he's rather polite and actually fairly distant, so he basically acts how you'd act towards strangers or acquaintances, which is easy enough to write out. The downside of that is that it potentially makes him sound very bland, because it's not particularly distinct. His more obvious quirks come from his occasional dry humour and weariness, but he's not as likely to show those unless he's comfortable around you or if it's in a situation that might call for it.

cast strength: □ □ □ □ □

DO I REALLY NEED TO EXPLAIN THIS.

plotting capabilities: ■ ■ ■ □ □

Toale is kind of in the middle ground, in that he's not detached that he'd never meddle in other's business but has no burning desire to either, and as a character, I don't know if he really has anything interesting to offer to the other party.

shipping potential: ■ ■ ■ ■ □

I swear Toale is like one of the more normal characters I play when it comes to the romance department and that's kind of sad.

But yes. Toale is a fairly normal teenager, and while romance has never been a priority due to his lifestyle, he's crushing on Kiefer, so he's not asexual!! It's a fairly normal crush too, compared to Zohra's obsession and I WILL DO ANYTHING FOR THIS GIRL attitude, so he's not necessarily fixated on her. On the other hand, he does still have a crush for her, hence why this isn't maxed, along with his somewhat distant attitude.

likelihood of drop: □ □ □ □ □

N/A

development/final thoughts:

Toale, I feel, is one of those characters who can potentially have some interesting development, especially since canon kind of awkwardly put him through hell and then shifted him back to minor character status without ever really tying his development up like it's done for some of the other characters. I'M HOPING THIS WILL CHANGE but until then, Toale's basically stuck in a halfway through state. He's gone through a lot and has just about lost everything in life (he's... alive? Some of his people are alive? He's friends with Ryner? THAT'S ABOUT IT) but is trucking through, so.

The problem is that, as Jae put it, he's sort of... dull? Not in that he's not an interesting character BECAUSE I LOVE HIM LOTS AND WILL FIGHT YOU IF YOU ARGUE OTHERWISE but the way he speaks and acts is, again, very generic because for all of Toale's niceness, he doesn't actually seem to form a whole lot of meaningful connections. It'd be difficult getting him to the point where something meaningful could come out of his CR and playing him, and I don't think I have the patience for that, hence why I'm no longer playing him in a game.
character: Sia Kul [[personal profile] wearisome]
age: 15
series: Crepuscule
time played: N/A

muse strength: ■ ■ ■ ■ □

Speaking... easy. Spurts...

[Sia's way of speaking is really easy because he talks in spurts.]

I actually want to sit down and write a personality section for him sometime (actually, given Yun's failing internet, I guess now would be perfect) because I feel like there is a lot to Sia past the surface, in that despite his lack of eloquence, he's really not as stupid as he might come across (it's clear in his thoughts and occasional full sentence that he can talk properly if he wants to, but he's just too lazy).

In any case, Sia is a fairly simple person, though in an endearing sort of way, so I feel like it wouldn't be too hard getting into his head.

cast strength: □ □ □ □ □

/sits in a corner

plotting capabilities: ■ □ □ □ □

If given the chance, Sia would literally sleep all day.

The only reason this isn't completely empty is because that would be a tad depressing.

shipping potential: ■ ■ ■ □ □

Sia's got a cute and normal teenage crush on Seere, so he's not asexual. At the same time, this is still lower than Toale's in that Sia is arguably even worse than Toale in the distance department (I'd say Toale is more distant deep inside, but Sia has less opportunities to make friends because very few actually want to put up with him). Sia's mostly given up on the idea of making connections with people because they all failed in the past, so while it's not impossible for him to form a crush on someone else, Seere does have the honour of being one of the first people to connect with him.

likelihood of drop: □ □ □ □ □

N/A

development/final thoughts:

I really want to play Sia because I feel like he has an interesting discrepancy between the way he talks and the person inside (compared to Senri, whom I've played before and who talked in a similar fashion but whose mental state was actually closer to his outward attitude). And, to echo what I've said/implied for a lot of characters... ~FRIENDSHIP~. Sia's used to a life where most people don't want to bother talking to him, so it'd be interesting to stick him in a place where others would probably be more tolerable of his "dull" personality.

... Except there's the whole SLEEPS ALL DAY AND DOESN'T CARE ABOUT ANYTHING attitude. Welp.
character: Vlad Tepes [I DON'T ACTUALLY HAVE A JOURNAL]
age: ... several hundreds of years old...?
series: Crepuscule
time played: N/A

muse strength: ■ ■ □ □ □

Tepes is a bit of a tricky character to nail down, especially given the differences in personality between being alive and being dead (Tepes comes across as a lot more smug as a dead person living inside of Lark). You also don't get to see Tepes in a whole lot of different situations, so it might be a bit hard to figure that out.

cast strength: □ □ □ □ □

:'D

plotting capabilities: ■ ■ □ □ □

Tepes is not hugely concerned about anything beyond ~CLAN~ and ~GOALS~ and ~I'LL KILL YOU CARMILLA (FUU)~, but does show some investment towards people, like Florian, so it's a matter of pushing had enough until Tepes cares.

shipping potential: ■ □ □ □ □

I don't even have the slightest clue where to approach this.

TEPES MIGHT'VE BEEN IN LOVE WITH CARMILLA? Though to be honest, I'm starting to wonder if maybe it was actually Nergal Tepes was in love with...

ANYWAY I DON'T KNOW and now Tepes hates both of them, so.

Yeah.

likelihood of drop: □ □ □ □ □

N/A

development/final thoughts:

I feel like Tepes would be fun because of the whole ~reveal~ and I'm strangely fond of this character (maybe it's the Tiir vibes) but voice-wise, I'm too shaky to be entirely comfortable. Maybe if we get more information, but given that that arc seems to have ended, we might not. Bah.
character: Quon Miduchi [[personal profile] withdraws]
age: 1000+
series: Towa no Quon
time played: N/A

muse strength: ■ ■ □ □ □

Quon is kind of tricky in that the subs weren't too great, so I'd have to rewatch the dub and probably go with his voice there, in which case he... talks pretty normally? So there's nothing horribly distinct there.

Actually, to sum it up, he's basically like Toale.

cast strength: □ □ □ □ □

I've seen... one other person playing from Towa no Quon...? I WILL CONSIDER THAT A VICTORY OF SORTS but yeah.

plotting capabilities: ■ ■ ■ □ □

... Honestly, Quon is pretty much like Toale here except Quon is maybe more proactive in helping people because he has the physical capabilities for it.

shipping potential: □ □ □ □ □

I think Quon is generally accepted among the tiny fandom to be asexual, so yeaaaaah, shipping is not a thing.

likelihood of drop: □ □ □ □ □

N/A

development/final thoughts:

Yet again similarly to Toale, I've played Quon briefly, so I know that I have trouble in making him... interesting? He's one of those characters with a lot of baggage but until you actually find it, he's very polite and friendly but ultimately distant and bland in outward manners.

I've considered apping him to Haven because it'd be fun to see how the horrors affect him, as he's very touchy about his issues, and being an overpowered shonen hero, he'd do well against threats, but aside from the fact that I don't think I can handle more characters, there's the above matter.
